7 Examination Measures for Addressing Various User Needs (i) Interviews*8 The JPO conducts interviews to facilitate communication between examiners and applicants, etc. In response to the needs of applicants and agents, etc. in remote areas, the JPO not only conducts interviews in the JPO's building, but also conducts on-site interviews and online interviews.*9 Interviews may also be conducted with some of the participants participating online. The ratio of online interviews in 2025 was 40%. In 2025, there were 2,159 interviews (of these, 113 were conducted on-site, and 872 were conducted online). (ii) Collective Examinations for IP Portfolio Supporting Business Strategy*10 The Collective Examinations for IP Portfolio Supporting Business Strategy (CEIP) is a measure that supports the acquisition of rights in time with business development, with examiners for multiple applications related to the business (patent, design, and trademark applications) coordinating with each other to conduct their respective examinations. [Figure 2-1-6] In 2025, there were 19 applications.
